Updating countertops

I’m guessing 95% of the houses in our neighborhood have laminate countertops.And to check my guess, the other night I went online and looked at about 15 homes that have sold in the last few years in our neighborhood and all but one had laminate countertops.

With that said, laminate is a fraction of the cost of solid surface countertops.So, today I want to talk to you about countertops and how to add value to your home, while not going unnecessarily buck-wild (which I have been known to do on occasion). We paid $1,400 for about 55 square feet of countertop space (that includes labor).

So the laminate came out around $26 per square foot, which is a lot more economical than $100-$225 per square foot for granite. In fact, I’m surprised by how stain resistant it is.

it sucks – hehe) The ogee is popular because a lot of people think that this particular profile mimics the look of quartz/granite countertops and it LOOKS lovely. Unless you specify your corners you will get a flat edge on one side which kills the whole idea of it Okay, so it’s not THAT easy as you will also need some time and a moderate amount of muscle.

However, I find it not so hot for a couple of reasons… When you wipe the counter, the shrapnel falls onto that 2nd ledge (or your floor if you get a good run at it) and you have to wipe that as well. You will pay per linear ft for the countertop company to remove and dispose of your old countertop.

This took about 1 hr and 1/2 a bottle of wine – well worth it if you ask me! There are even more fun and fabulous ways to save money when updating your kitchen, but that’s it for now my friends!
